We asked singer Ashlee Simpson and her husband, actor and musician Evan Ross — who recently partnered with luxury whisky brand Chivas Regal — about the snacks and moisturizers they can’t live without.
What Ashlee can’t live without
I take my hair care seriously. I apply Olaplex on bun days and only use Slip’s silk hair ties, so I don’t damage my hair. I recently started using Divi’s shampoo and conditioner a couple of months ago. My hair is super glossy since using it. It smells minty and feels refreshing while I’m showering.
This also smells wonderful. I’ve been using it for years now. It’s by my friends over at Nine Zero One Salon. I spritz it after every shower. It’s a magical detangler. I’ve even started using it for my kids, because it’s the only thing that gets out all of their knots.
I’ve been using these for years. The lavender ones specifically for nighttime because they smell good. Most importantly, though, they really effectively remove makeup. I wear my wing eyeliner, and this wipes it off very well.
One of Evan’s friends actually recommended and gifted me a sweater from Kathryn McCarron. I loved it so much that I bought multiples in caramel, black, and a couple of other colors. Lately, I have been living in them, because mom life in L.A. is cold in the morning and hot in the afternoon. I can wear these throughout the entire day. They’re so soft and cozy.
I love a Jennifer Fisher hoop. The backs are thick and secure unlike other earrings, and they never feel heavy on my ears. I have a lot of styles and switch between them, depending if I’m feeling a small huggy or a bigger hoop. My everyday go-to, though, is a smaller double hoop.
What Evan can’t live without
Church Boutique is my favorite store by our friend Rodney Burns. A lot of our furniture and décor comes from this store. I love their candles, though, because they smell and look amazing. They come with these crystals on top of them that I’ve never seen before. They make great gifts, too. I bought one for my mom recently that she likes, but this is my favorite scent.
I don’t know if you’ve seen a picture of this blow-dryer, but it has a cool retro vibe. I don’t use it for myself, but for our kids Ziggy and Bronx who have long, curly hair. This is perfect for them. Ziggy really loves using it himself. I have a picture of him doing his hair that looks straight out of a commercial. It’s the cutest thing.
I love almost all of Clarins’ products, but this is a must-have. I wake up some mornings with swollen eyes from my allergies, and this is a fast and easy fix for depuffing. It doesn’t irritate my skin either. It’s great.
I’ve always loved Funyuns. As a kid, I used to hide them in my pockets at school, because we weren’t supposed to eat in class. I’d sneak a little Funyun here and there. Now, I always have them stocked at home and when we’re traveling.
AS: He does love a Funyun. I wouldn’t typically buy them myself. But when Evan’s chomping on them, I get in there. It makes it better if we’re going to be kissing. That way, we both smell like a Funyun.
ER: I don’t think Funyuns even smell bad. I don’t know what people are talking about.
What they both can’t live without
AS: I actually just put this on. I’ve been using it for a very long time. It’s super thick and hydrating. I mean, there are all different kinds of moisturizer that you can use, but that one is just so good. It really soaks into your skin. I do notice a difference when I use it.
ER: I agree. I haven’t tried anything else that’s better. Ashlee low-key steals my La Mer when I’m not looking. I’m like, Why are there two La Mers on your side of the bathroom?
ER: So Ashlee got us both using La Mer, but this is something we actually picked up from my mom. She’s been using it for a while, and now we do too.
AS: We’re just a family who shares beauty tips. If for whatever reason I don’t have my La Mer and I’m in a pinch, I pick this up at the grocery store or drugstore. It’s obviously not La Mer, but it’s also thick and moisturizing and a good backup.
AS: We love the matching tracksuit that comes in this set. It’s very chic and cute. We got to celebrate the release of the set while wearing them the other day, and they were so comfortable.
ER: Yeah, it was definitely the chicest version of a tracksuit I’ve ever seen. You can wear it at home or to work out, but also straight to dinner.
AS: We got to have a nice little celebratory cocktail, too. It had some Chivas Regal whisky, honey, and lemon, which all comes in the set.
